Choice reaction time is the delay between seeing one of several possible signals and performing the response assigned to that signal. Unlike a simple visual test, the participant cannot prepare one fixed action. The stimulus must first be identified, then matched to the correct response. This makes the task a compact measure of visual detection, response selection, decision speed, and motor execution.
This browser test presents four possible targets. After a random wait, one target turns green. Selecting the highlighted target records a valid reaction time; choosing a distractor or responding before the highlight produces an invalid round. Five correct rounds are summarized so a single unusually fast or slow response has less influence on the result.
A simple reaction time test asks you to make the same response whenever one expected signal appears. The choice version adds uncertainty: several locations are possible, but only one is correct. The two results should not be compared as if they measured identical tasks. Place the pointer near the center of the four targets before each round, keep the same hand and input device, and avoid guessing when the target will appear.
